Asus / Google Nexus 7 Advantages

Libellés :

Designed by Google and manufactured by Asus, the Nexus 7 is one of the flagship products appeared in the world of high-tech in 2012, during which it has sold more than 4.5 million copies. Because here it is never too late to talk about the good things, here is our opinion on the Nexus 7!
An exemplary finish:
One of the things that strikes with the Nexus 7 is that Google manages to offer a good quality product with a relatively short development time. The goal was to hit hard: it came out in summer 2012, the Nexus 7 was offered at very attractive price of $ 199 (8GB version) without compromising on features.
The finish is a good example. With a shell thin enough (but not too), rather light (340 grams) and very solid, the Nexus 7 trust. The format of the screen (7 inches) makes truly mobile, without return in your pocket (unless wearing a baggy with a belt reliable and not be bothered by knee strikes, the tablet is not made for!).
Around the screen (which will be discussed later) there is a good margin of about 2 inches on the short sides (and one centimeter on the long side) leaving a comfortable place to place your thumbs and hold shelf: it is an advantage rather than a disadvantage here on a shelf, where the "hunt margins" around the screen has no place.
Yes, it makes you want to touch it, eh!
The rear is very successful: with small "holes" and a beautiful inscription "Nexus" pop, this section provides a really nice touch and adherent. That may not seem like much, but it is very important when you hold the tablet in your hands. There is also a wide band that serves speakers. Little risk of "blocking" the sound with your hands.
Finish the tour of the property with the gray edge, which gives the illusion of metal but is not. It rather resembles the hull of the good old Nexus One and let us think that this is the part that is damaged first on your Nexus 7 if you do not take care. The USB port is located on the edge of below, classic volume buttons and lock on the right ... and that's it!
Small but beefy:
Despite its low price, the Nexus 7 has the luxury of taking a processor Nvidia Tegra 3 12-core, in addition to four Cortex A9 cores, ideal when it comes to enjoy the games for android greedy . After playing some of the best games on the market, it is confirmed: the Nexus 7 love game, it was even designed for it. Supported by a small GB of RAM, the tablet simply offers the best price performance ratio, even today.
Tegra 3 chip: far from being the pick!
Tegra 4 a beautiful point the tip of his nose, the Nexus 7 is far from being exceeded and will still make you play long. There is little to see the games currently "optimized Tegra 3", or the good performance of "old" Tegra 2 tablets to be convinced: the Tegra is a lot of marketing and figures but the power is at the rendezvous, and not only on the latest generation of chips.
The other highlight hailed at the time of its release, but still relevant, it is the fluidity of the tablet. Certainly, it embarked on "new" Android 4.1 which brought himself gain fluency. But it is a fact that the interface of the Nexus 7 is very responsive, and it is a joy. This is not only due to the maturity of Jelly Bean and the processor, but also the quality of the touch screen.
A reactive screen and quality
Screen, talk about precisely: a 1280 × 800 resolution (as most computers from 13 to 15 inches) it offers high quality, saturation less exaggerated than smartphones and especially very good angles vision (178 °) then understand that you do not need to "stack" in front to see the image correctly, and a tablet (often regarded to many) this is an important point.
Now you might think that the Nexus 7 screen with 216 PPI (pixels per inch) is just the average of the 7 inch tablets, though it can be considered high end when compared to that of the Apple iPad mini and 163 DPI, which costs almost twice as much (little troll by the way, is on the house).

Connectivity: HDMI is missing!:
Front camera: poor quality but still handy for Skype video call or a Google+ Hangout.
If the Nexus 7 has all the sensors and connectivity elements classics such as Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi b / g / n, NFC chip, gyroscope, accelerometer, proximity sensor, magnetometer, microphone, 1.2 megapixel front camera and GPS chip like everyone else (oops, not on the iPad mini? Okay, I'll stop ...) however it lacks something that would alienate most of you gamers.
I do not mean the lack of rear camera, nobody really needs (ah ... if owners of iPad mini! Yes, I really stops ...) but the inability to connect the Nexus 7 HDMI. For a tablet-oriented games, and verging on flawless, it's a shame. Not only to play on your big screen TV, but also be able to watch movies stored on your tablet: forget it, you have no way to provide a video output to your Nexus 7.
MicroSD card? We also forget:
It is a habit with the Nexus product, a habit that is still annoying though: the lack of MicroSD slot to expand the memory of the tablet. This allows Google to push buyers on the higher capacity versions, which are much more profitable for him. Indeed, with 50 euros difference for 16GB more (which actually cost not much more to produce) it allows a margin much larger. The 8GB version proposed at the beginning of the marketing was, for once, really limited capacity (it is no longer available).
Today, the 16 GB version (already good enough for most users) is available at 199 euros, it will cost 249 for the 32 GB A 32 GB version with HSPA + 299 euros will be very useful if you are have access to the internet anywhere with your Nexus 7 (even if the connection sharing with your smartphone is a cheaper solution!).
Good battery life ... if you do not use it!
I just got the latest update to Android 4.2.2: apparently, autonomy would be enhanced.
A final negative point about this Nexus 7, but also almost all other smartphones and tablets today, is that of autonomy. We may say, no product is now able to offer a range worthy of the name, to the point that it is used to recharge our products daily, and a device that takes two or three days seem "very good". Here we are on a tablet with 4325 mAh, which officially announced a range of about 9-10 hours use and 300 hours standby.
After several weeks of use, I can confirm these figures, especially by adding a very obvious conclusion: the screen has a huge amount of energy consumed, even when the brightness is set to minimum. When the screen is off, you will find that the battery gauge does not go down very little (as long as you do not have applications that synchronize the time!). By cons, when you start a game in 3D greedy or simply surfing the internet, the battery down pretty quickly. Compared to a smartphone, of course, autonomy is best, but with the lack of HSPA + chip on my model, I expected a difference more obvious. Small disappointment.
Small details in bulk:
The Tegra chip is unfortunately not compatible with the single application suitable video capture screen (Screencast) and probably never will be for reasons of technical limitations. This is why I no longer have the opportunity to make great video games tested on the site: take this into account if you intend to make videos from your games!
Nexus 7 Some were victims of screen problems "that comes off" on the left, in the first month of its release. This minor problem seems more news on the new models. Moreover, most of the early models are not affected by this defect.
Although the Nexus 7 has not default no USB or microSD reader, know that it is still compatible with the USB OTG adapter, allowing for a "real" USB port, and then plug hard drives USB drives, keyboards, mice, joysticks ... all instantly and automatically recognized by your Nexus 7!
Conclusion:
When the Nexus 7 landed, I was the first to suggest that we should not rush it but wait a few months, the competition offers other 7 inch Android tablets in the same price range as good or best. But six months after his arrival, it is clear that the Nexus 7 is still one of the best 7-inch tablet market with an unbeatable price performance ratio. If no HDMI port bothers you that much and, finally, if you're not that player, the Kindle Fire HD could also be a good choice for the same price, provided they deprive a " Android pure "and especially Google Play Store.
